Workshop held to strengthen Peace and Disarmament Education in Nepal’s schools

29th January 2015

Twenty five newly selected text book writers were invited by the Curriculum Development Center (CDC) to a 3-day Peace and Disarmament Education workshop supported by UNRCPD and UNESCO Nepal. The outcome of the workshop are 15 new lessons which will benefit students across Nepal by providing them with improved peace and disarmament education.

Together the two UN agencies urged text book writers and curriculum developers “to teach for peace and not about peace”. Distinguished speakers, including the Deputy Inspector General Baburam Pandyand from Nepal’s Armed Police Forces, together with the directors of CDC, Mr. Diwakar Dhungel, and UNRCPD, Yuriy Kryvonos, spoke about the importance of peace and disarmament education in both the international and Nepalese context whilst highlighting the role of students in peace, disbarment and security issues.
