UNODA – OSCE Project on Facilitating Regional Implementation of UNSCR 1540 (2004); Tajikistan NAP Review Meeting

KATHMANDU, 20 September (Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament) – The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) jointly organized a round-table meeting to review and further develop the National Action Plan (NAP) on the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1540 (2004) of Tajikistan. The meeting took place from 20 to 22 September 2017 at the OSCE Head Quarters in Vienna, Austria

Representatives of ministries and state agencies of Tajikistan responsible for implementing resolution 1540 (2004) met with the representatives of the Expert Group of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004), UNRCPD, the OSCE and other international organizations to share experiences and assess achievements in their work.

This meeting is a follow-up to both the national roundtable event and the trilateral peer-review held in Dushanbe in June and August 2017, respectively. The meeting provided an opportunity for the national officials to reflect with international experts on the progress of its NAP development and implementation. Participants further focused on updating the NAP and complementing it with new national measures with a view to prevent the proliferation of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons and their means of delivery to non-State actors. Special attention was given to considering export-control legislation including control lists, licensing system and identification of dual use goods

This event was implemented as part of the UNODA-OSCE Joint Project for Regional Implementation of UNSCR-1540 in Central Asia and Mongolia.
