Kathmandu, 26 June 2017 (UNRCPD) — The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Government of Tajikistan, with the assistance of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD), are jointly organizing a national roundtable meeting to review the National Action Plan (NAP) of Tajikistan on the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1540 (2004). The meeting will take place from 26 to 27 June 2017 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Representatives of ministries and state agencies of Tajikistan responsible for implementing resolution 1540 will meet to share experiences and discuss progress in their work. The meeting will focus on Tajikistan’s efforts to implement United Nations Security Council resolution 1540 (2004) to prevent the proliferation of nuclear, chemical, radiological or biological weapons and their means of delivery to non-State actors.
Representatives from the Government of Tajikistan, the 1540 Committee’s Group of Experts, UNRCPD and the OSCE will discuss Turkmenistan’s national implementation status as well as areas of possible assistance. Special attention will be paid to the role of relevant national stakeholders in ensuring sustainability of the progress achieved so far, as well as the need for new national measures to adopt this important document.
This meeting will build upon the success of the Peer Review meeting that took place in Minsk, Belarus on 2 to 5 August 2016, between the Governments of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, with inputs and recommendations from international experts.
