Gender, Mental Health, and Peace Processes inclusion in the UNPoA and SALW
UNRCPD Moderates Webinar on Integrating Gender, Mental Health, and Peace Processes into the UNPoA on SALW
Organized by NISEA and IANSA, this webinar explored key themes such as the inclusion of gender perspectives, mental health, and peace processes in the RevCon4 outcomes, as well as the challenges of indigenous people’s inclusion. Discussions also focused on how CSOs can enhance their participation in the UNPoA through peacebuilding, synergies, and intersectionality.
The session featured insights from:
- Mr. Sunil Babu Pant, human rights activist and the first openly gay Member of Parliament in Asia from Nepal.
- Ms. Mitzi Austero, Programmes Manager at Nonviolence International Southeast Asia.
Participants examined the progressive language of the RevCon4 outcome document and discussed pathways for more inclusive and effective implementation of the UNPoA, especially addressing the illicit trade of small arms.
This meaningful conversation emphasized the importance of advancing gender equality, mental health advocacy, and indigenous representation in efforts to combat armed violence and promote equitable participation in arms control and disarmament.
A heartfelt thank-you to all who contributed to this inspiring discussion!
