Expert meeting to facilitate dialogue on possible negotiations of a Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty (FMCT)
The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD), in cooperation with the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) and the Geneva Branch of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) is organizing a regional meeting of scientific experts from Africa and Asia to contribute to future negotiations on a Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty. The workshop will be held from 17 – 18 December 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The workshop aims to facilitate a round table discussion at regional level among members of scientific/academic institutions and regional organizations working in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE), and dealing with fissile materials and other nuclear-security and nuclear-energy related issues. The meeting will provide an opportunity to share knowledge and information amongst experts on issues relevant to banning the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.
The workshop is made possible with financial contribution from the European Union.
